Music is motivating. As students develop an appreciation of music, they learn experientially about harmony, rhythm, and creating a beautiful connection with others. Both the instrumental and the choral music programs play prominent roles in the life of the Boston Higashi School. All students participate in singing, from the time they begin school through the Emergence Program. Singing develops breathing, posture, oral – motor, language, intonation and performance skills.

The study of instrumental music develops musicianship and skill in fine-motor control and coordination. Students who demonstrate particular talent and interest have the opportunity to join the Jazz Band or Chorus Group. All students participate in performances on the local, national or international level.

Students Will Learn to Play Many Different Instruments

At Higashi we like to explore all possible abilities of our students. Through their structured music classes, students will learn to use many different instruments that cover a variety of play styles. We encourage our students to find what they enjoy playing and will help to further their skillset as they progress musically.

Music Performances

Towards the end of every school year, students perform together as an entire division for Annual Celebration. Each division has a  musical performance where students are able to display what they have learned all year in their music classes. The above video is a small preview of Younger High School Division’s performance in 2022.
