The Higashi Garden vocational program has been awarded a $5,000 grant
03/10/2010 UP

The Higashi Garden vocational program has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Daniel Jordan Fiddle Foundation in Ridgewood, NJ. The funding will be used to establish a chamomile garden at the Higashi Garden job site, and to develop students’ better understanding of agricultural job tasks and basic skills in the agricultural occupation. It is hoped that such on campus activities will put our students in position to obtain future employment opportunities in the agricultural industries. The chamomile garden will be named “The Daniel Jordan Fiddle Chamomile Garden” and its chamomile will be used for the soap and tea production. This funding will facilitate an exchange with local farmers who will be invited on campus to provide instruction to the students on how to create the chamomile garden by using professional knowledge and equipment. The students are also expected to experience engaging in agricultural industries at a local farm and raise chamomile that will be transplanted to the Higashi Garden. Special thanks to Hiroshi Abe who designed the proposal for the grant and Yoshie Gordon who supported the grant writing.
